Gibbons is a town in central Alberta, Canada. It is located on Highway 28A, 37 km (23 mi) north-east of Edmonton.
The town was named for William R. Gibbons who settled in the area and was created from the merger of two smaller communities: Astleyville and Battenburg. Gibbons is situated on the southern banks of the Sturgeon River which is a major tributary of the North Saskatchewan River.
In the 2011 Census, the Town of Gibbons had a population of 3,030 living in 1,075 of its 1,111 total dwellings, a 14.7% change from its 2006 population of 2,642. With a land area of 7.39 km (2.85 sq mi), it had a population density of 410.0/km (1,061.9/sq mi) in 2011.
The population of the Town of Gibbons according to its 2007 municipal census is 2,848.
In 2006, Gibbons had a population of 2,642 living in 993 dwellings, a 0.5% decrease from 2001. The town has a land area of 6.46 km (2.49 sq mi) and a population density of 409.1 /km (1,060 /sq mi).
